Delete your OpinionSphere account

You can do this yourself, in the app, without asking us. This page also explains exactly what is removed and what is not, because on OpinionSphere, some of it is not.

On the website

  1. 1. Sign in and open your profile.
  2. 2. Scroll to Settings and choose Delete account.
  3. 3. Confirm. Your account closes immediately and every device you are signed in on is signed out.

In the Android app

  1. 1. Open OpinionSphere and go to the You tab.
  2. 2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
  3. 3. Confirm. Same effect. It is the same account either way.

By email

If you cannot get into your account. You have lost access to the Google account you signed in with, say. Email [email protected] from the address on the account, or tell us your handle. We will verify you own it before deleting anything, and reply within 30 days.

What is deleted

  • • Your email address, handle, display name and bio.
  • • The link between your identity and everything you did.
  • • Every sign-in session and remembered device.
  • • Your notification subscriptions. The app stops contacting you.
  • • Your comments, if you tick that box when you delete.

What stays, and why

Your votes and the polls you created stay, without your name on them. They stay because a public poll's result is a record other people have read, quoted and built on, and because removing votes afterwards would let anyone rewrite a result by deleting an account.

Anything you wrote or made shows as Deleted account, linking nowhere. Your handle is held for 90 days and then returns to the pool.

Usage records. Taps, page views, time spent. Are deleted on their own schedule, 180 days after they happen, for everyone. Before that we keep only daily totals, which carry no account, device or session and cannot be traced back to you.

We would rather say this plainly than bury it: this position has not been tested in law. If you think we are keeping something we should have removed, tell us and we will look at it properly rather than pointing you back at this page. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Deleting your account does not delete the app. To remove it from your phone, uninstall it as you would any other app.
